I'm about to descend into the office party maelstrom, but before I go, I thought I'd share this gem from the info4gov update service. We live in apocalyptic times, children.

In the longer term though, the SMP concludes that a “hold the line” policy (ie maintenance of existing sea defences) along large stretches of this shoreline will be neither economically viable nor technically sustainable.

sorry,
I didn't mean to upset you. Turned out office party #1 was full of people who'd been recenly bereaved, anyway -- so not much of a maelstrom.

*sigh* I'm just upsetting everyone today.

We've all got our fears
That one is my biggie.
Better luck for office party #2. Or, hell, let's have the party right here! Have a plastic cup of warm wine and a crisp!

Re: cunning!
I didn't ... but I have now. I ought to have voted "don't really know"...

ooh, another pessimist!
If I'd put "I don't know" in, *everybody* would have voted for it.

My biggest surprise was how many people thought it would just sort itself out ... that said, it wasn't the people who actually (used to or still) work in the field saying that ...
