Well, I may be in a more than usual fix. I quote the service email:

*NOTE: If you were a GeoCities member before June 25, 1999 and have not completed the merge process, you will no longer be able to access your old GeoCities account. We have closed the merge process of old accounts.

Oh, Yahoo. Some warning would have been nice. Not about merging (I presume I got that) but the bit about closing off access if you didn't merge. Although possibly you did, but the process was frustrating, and borken, and I just didn't have the time/patience to deal with your help process.

Ah, bum. I used to have a cute little utility that would hoover down a whole website, but that was last century or so. Cleanskies on Geocities is old, and really quite diddy, but still.

I suppose that rescuing it by hand will focus me on the bits I actually want to keep.

ETA: Oh, cute little utility has a 2009 version. Problem solved.

I have some old geocities sites. Does this mean they will be deleted? I don't remember the passwords.

Uhmmmm yes, AFAIK. Later this summer. I'm going to archive my stuff to my main website after downloading them down using a web site saving utility that doesn't need ftp access. Not needed to do this in ages, so I'll have to trawl some recommendations -- something off this list is likely, though:
