Dykes and Duck

Dykes and Duck, originally uploaded by Jeremy Dennis.

Groc and Archontic have persuaded me that Flickr might be fun to play with.

I recommend visiting the "tags" page. The one that lists them all. Almost as much fun as searching for "anxiety" in the mirror project.

I've also posted a picture of my old broken transparent palm, I seem to remember a few people asked to see it, months ago ...

This was more or less the premise of my idea for a sitcom. You would have to ask mr_snip about this, but when he was living in the shared house just off Botley Road with Tanaqui, she brought back an injured duck then went to bed so the others came downstairs in the morning to find, much to their surprise, the duck. In the wonderful world of the sitcom (working title 'Mind The Duck') this would be misheard as an 'injured dyke' and the local women's group would arrive only to find said fowl sitting in the lounge quacking confusedly.

Of course I may have misremembered, or the story may have 'grown in the telling' as they say. Then again, did you live in that house anyway? :-)

no!
... I didn't live in the house, but I do remember all about the duck. For months Neal would speak of nothing but, it seemed. I think it was the regular mallard type, however.

Re: no!
"for months he spoke of nothing but the duck". I can imagine this as the caption of a Glen Baxter cartoon or pastiche thereof featuring mr_snips.

what fun with toys you have!! LOVE the silver duckie-- I've never seen one that color before! Is it aerodynamic?

more in the "can be thrown" category
Novelty rubber ducks are quite big over here -- the Devil Duck is justly famous, but he has a whole host of less popular friends. After christmas there are bins full of them on sale, he's a christmas reject.

Oh, I have a Devil Duck, and the standard yellow. A friend of mine collects them and has James Brown, Betty Boop, among others.

Wilful misunderstanding
I recommend visiting the "tags" page.

I do like the Google Ads on the page. Looking for tags to annotate your photos with? How about this terribly relevant Pet Tags & Micro-chipping course? Or this Digital Dog Tag which can hold 40 lines of text?

at least that makes sense
... for some reason, my page is advertising trampolines. Why?

Re: at least that makes sense
So is the tag=gerbil page. There's a link to comment to Google on their ad service. I told them I couldn't quite see the special relevance of trampolines to people who like photos of gerbils. But it is late, and I am talking drivel. The tag=godzilla page is advertising news feed software. Want to keep up to date on the latest global threats by large mutant lizards? Create an RSS feed straight to your desktop! At least that makes sense.

hmmm, gerbils, dolls, barbies
... maybe there's some sort of humourous reassignation of vaguely rude tags going on.

I was going to introduce a note of sense at this point, like "This site is new, and Google are probably still developing their algorithms".

But first I decided to do a perfectly ordinary Google search on one of the words, say, "gerbil", to see if it also brought up trampolining information. And was presented with the following context-sensitive advertising.

Bargain Gerbil

Re: Wilful misunderstanding
S'alight for you people I've noticed with some alarm google ads for anti pigeon and seagull spikes and for pest control firms. So here's me putting up pictures that are more or less saying 'look at the nice pretty birdies' and the google ads underneath are saying 'vermin - kill them'.

Flickr is fantastic. I like to dominate tags that nobody else posts into. Right now, I rule "penguins" without even trying.

Hmm, like the duck. I did set up a flickr account but I'm still rather ambivalent about the use of it. Will you be streaming photos from it onto your website?

after the theoretical redevelop?
... er, maybe. To be honest, it's more of a convenience while the home network uhm, does what home networks do when you've been running on out of date equipment for a while.

I suppose I could stream it on cleanskies ... not that I use that for much any more ...
