sign of the apocalypse

This morning I walked past a girl wearing high-heeled wellies. That's just wrong.

I know what wellies are! Ha, I feel smart. Anyway, there's also high-heeled flip-flops out. Very strange.

Flipping and flopping in high heels sounds very dangerous.

Also available: high helled espadrilles. Although they did have bits of string to keep them attached ...

Re: hym
I actually possess a air of high heeled (though not high helled) wedge espadrilles, (with bits of string) and very fetching they are too - though not wildly practical for long hikes I admit.

coloured ones, yes
Floral, Burberry, pink and or the colour of your favourite charity, fine.

But four-inch block heels in bright yellow ...

well, it was striking.

But were they burberry ones?

no,
they were bright yellow with decorative bits of lacing (in blue) at the knee.

My mum has had high heeled wellies for decades, and high heeled slippers, her one and only foray into the world of trainers had huge platforms attached.
Mind you, I don't think she's capable of wearing flat shoes, her feet have ossified into a permanent heel kink.

it just doesn't seem natural. I mean, the whole point is, you're staggering around in mud (or pretending you might be at any moment). So, heels? eh?

Traction.
For walking in the mud downhill.

Re: crivvens
Mud probably doesn't feature too much in my mums lifestyle, I think the high heeled wellies, (and we're talking 3 inch spikey heels,) are more for fighting your way to the sales in a downpour.

louise wants to know if they were 'wedge wellies'?
that doesn't seem to be such an atrocious concept, apparently...

nope
four inch block heels. In bright yellow.

Weird Mental Picture...
I can't actually envision this; too weird...
Although, as Paul & Louise say, wedgie ones are dealable-with. Ditto the trainers.

maybe I should try drawing it
... though it looked so vastly wrong that I probably can't. Four inch block heels in bright yellow rubber seems fine in a fetsh context but as part of sturdy everyday footwear? Eek.

High heeled? Or kitten heeled?

high
Four-inch blocks. Well, there's something to be thankful for, at least. They weren't kitten-heels.

It was very nice to meet you, albeit briefly, last night. I do apologise if I was a drunken slabbering fool!

you weren't,
and it was nice to meet you, too -- I'd've liked to join you but I had too many bags and stuff (oh, and I'd been in the pub since about 3pm ... so if you were being a drunken slabbering fool I probably wouldn't have noticed...)

True...
But marginally more practical than those knee-high boots and short-skirts on cold wintry nights by senseless girls waiting to get into clubs on the weekend.
