uk web and mini-comics thing sketchbook

crayoned scrawlThe only thing I really rate in this week's strip (such as it is, it's just a montage of sketchbook stuff drawn during conversations down the pub after UKWMCthing) is that final panel of an ostrich driving a minicab. Why were we talking about ostriches driving minicabs? This and many other mysteries of drunken blather will remain unclarified. But then, without the sketch, the idea would have been forgotten utterly. Might have been better that way.

Was slightly freaked yesterday by coming across another link between people I knew. greengolux and others in Third Row Fandom mentioned a cartoonist called Jeremy which of course was you.

I shouldn't have been so surprised because everyone from Oxford knows everyone else :-)

not true ... however, the Third Row is out of OUSFG, of which I am a (somewhat disconnected, true) member. I'm a few years older than them, but not so much so that I've not been to the odd meeting, banquet and a heck of a lot of parties with them.

I was also at the convention where the term was coined -- in the fifth row, I think. Possibly the fourth.

YOU WERE? Gosh. that was Blackpool last year, right? I was doing the newsletter for the entire weekend and so didn't get to see many people who didn't stop by the newsletter room.

hmmm
I'm pretty sure I put my head round the door of the newsletter cupboard, at least, last year, but from all I can remember is a sea (well, an enthusiastic inlet, at least) of eager young third-rowers.

... and I'm pretty sure the first third row was at Hinkley, the year before. Probably oxfordhacker's fault, many things seem to be.

I didn't know that. (Was at Hinckley again last weekend, of course). Maybe they reprised the name by deliberately sitting in the third row a year later :-)
