fill up the schedule

We saw Hitchhikers last night, on preview. I spent the evening in paroxysms of glee over the sheer design gorgeousness on display but I think even if you discounted the sheer beauty and rightness of the spaceships, underpants, glasses, etc. it was still a very fun film. I bought the soundtrack, anyway -- looks like it plays out on a shit rap track, as usual for these things. "Reasons to be Miserable (his name is Marvin)" feat. Stephen Fry. Heheheh. And my Punt* passes. Whattheheck. Maybe I'll combine it with that glass book project I've been meaning to do for ages.

Tomorrow, off to Belfast for comics stuff. Appearing on a panel at the Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival, to be exact. I have to get up at an extremely unreasonable hour, and I'll be out of Oxford for mayday. I just don't plan ahead well, me. Back again on Sunday, probably wondering what the heck I was doing there ... a club night was promised, but it looks like it got relocated to the night before. These things happen. Looking at the rest of the panel -- pretty heavy hitters -- I probably won't have much to do. Except do the tourist thang with andyluke! Yay!

... and then, on bank holiday monday, Magdalen College Film Club is showing the entire Cremaster Cycle as a day-long marathon (Grove Auditorium, from 10am, £10). I ought to be packing, planning, sorting, cleaning. But then, but then ...

*Oxford's annual marathon gig night.

Where are you staying in Belfast? I would recommend Fun Things To Do there, but I hardly recognise the place anymore, so changed it's become since I left it, so I would be of no use at all.

Have you SEEN any of the Cremaster Cycle? I would very much like your opinion. I own bootleg CD's of it and I think it's the worst piece of shit that was ever created. But then I think Matthew Barney is the biggest phoney-assed crap-meister that ever lived. Don't get me started. oops, you already did.

I've seen scrips and scraps
and clips, but every time I go anywhere it's showing, mysterious display breakage seems to occur. Last time I ended watching some obscure early Jarman filmage instead -- sat on a comfy sofa. It was hard to be annoyed about that. Maybe I should avoid this showing in case the jinx of jeremy strikes again.

Re: I've seen scrips and scraps
hell, put the jinx of jeremy on it-- maybe you'll end up seeing something decent. :-)

Cremaster Schremaster
Saw bits of it at the tate modern last year or thenabouts. I will confess I found it quite funny, and given a muggy enough day and a comfy enough sofa I could imagine myself watching it for a while, but life is short and I don't think I could see myself taking it too seriously (which, it seems, is what Matthew B does).

Hmmm, if you hate it that much, would you consider lending? I am quite a responsible-type weirdo.
29th Apr, 2005 18:22 (UTC)
Yeah, I'll loan it. It's the non-pharmaceutical equivalent to Ambien. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I too have just seen clips, and would like to watch at least a chunk of it, just to see if it's possible for such a thing to be good -- it would be wonderful if it were. But maybe the whole thing in one go might be a bit indigestible... ah well, I guess it's not very likely to get shown anywhere round Ipswich in the near future <*sigh*>

Don't worry, I'm not stalking you. Stumbled across your website when updating my journal. I hope you had a fantastic time in Belfast over the weekend and enjoyed yourself immensely. Just thought I'd say hi and stuff, and I really like any of your artwork I've come across this morning/afternoon...erk...I didn't drink much last night and I feel hungover. Dale's definitely hungover.

I'm going to shut up.

Nice to meet you -- I had a great time, kind of mad but cool too and cute icon by the way ;) I don't mind being stalked !

Double yay!
Glad you had a good time. It was definitely a pretty random night for me!

and cute icon by the way ;)

Thankies, :-) I loved Aeon Flux when I caught it at the tender age of 11 or so. Haven't seen it since. Not sure what to make of the fact that they're doing a live action movie of it now.

Out of Oxford for May Day! But they might ban it next year.
2nd May, 2005 22:27 (UTC)
they're *always* banning it. I think they should have an all-night festival in the Angel and Greyhound next year. If they gave people something to do other than straining to hear a dozen choir boys, maybe they wouldn't get bored and fling themselves into the river ...

With bungee jumping and bouncy castles and colourscape and a big inflatable water slide.
