not altogether springtime yet

But I'd call this a somewhat more productive creative date than the last one.

We've rearranged the office, got the printer talking to the network and antique mac, I've dipped back into a major story I was writing before I moved and I still like it (yay!) and sorted out a new scanner I bought on impulse from Staples (it was triple loyalty points this evening, too -- score!) which took as long as everything else times fifty, ourgh scanner software sucks mighty arse.

And then there's this week's strip, plucked arbritarily from the never publish this pile. As you can see from what it's drawn on, it was never intended to go out into the world, and probably should not have done. But then I had this idea about thematic background colour ... well, anyway, I'm not as unhappy as that now. How could I be when I have such a fabulous weekend lined up?

waiting for spring - detail

Disgusting fact! I had to keep licking the pen because it was runnng out.

i like the paper it's drawn on. gives it a quality i didn't expect.
27th Jan, 2006 10:24 (UTC)
it's an LJ print-out of my 2005 resolutions
I started removing it in post, and then realised I liked it as it it was.

Odd as normally I'm quite prissy about getting rid of stuff like that ... and give myself a hard time for drawing on waste paper. But for this one, yes.

I love what's going on with the colours melting together.

Will I come directly to your house?
27th Jan, 2006 10:20 (UTC)
I think so, yes -- although we'll be going over to Jenni's pretty much directly it's probably best if you drop off the car at mine first, given later likelihood of drunkenness!

Re: umm,
Yes, good thinking. I'll aim for earlier rather than later then. If I'm away from here by half three I ought to be at yours by 5:30, all going according to plan.
27th Jan, 2006 10:27 (UTC)
I shall have tea and biscuits ready and waiting!

Personally, I love it. What else is skulking in the 'never publish' pile? Colours are kozmic.
27th Jan, 2006 10:32 (UTC)
lots of terrible, terrible things
Dark, drunken self-loathing rambles, ugly venting of bad feelings and nasty memories, stuff in which I elevate self-pity to levels that even bore myself, stuff in which I'm Very Unfair to other people, the usual set of strips about creative block that I'm too proud to publish, some weird sexual stuff and a very graphic strip about a co-worker being eaten alive by giant centipedes.
27th Jan, 2006 11:24 (UTC)
now, you know
you're only teasing us with this mention of the strip with centipedes, which I'm sure we're (I'm) all dying to see now.
27th Jan, 2006 13:42 (UTC)
me and centipedes
... well, there's a thing. I screamed during the centipede scene in Kong ! Embarassing.

Re: me and centipedes
Me, too. Hid my face. Am shamed.
27th Jan, 2006 14:26 (UTC)
what tinme should we come over this eve btw?
27th Jan, 2006 16:19 (UTC)
sometime after 6. Is it just you & Debra?
27th Jan, 2006 16:32 (UTC)
And Damian also, if that's OK? He's happy to help out with the scanning
27th Jan, 2006 16:53 (UTC)
surely, indeed that's ok
I just wasn't sure.

Could you make it 6:30 and then I'll have more of a chance to have got some stuff in? Cheers.

I seem to be remember you were quite taken with Eberg at some point in the past. They're playing at the Windmill in Brixton Sunday night - should I go?
27th Jan, 2006 13:52 (UTC)
I saw them as a striking lineup of manic cello girl, mad multitasking lead on vocals/laptop/synths/guitar/modified-coathanger-harp* and the aw!!!! saddest drummer of them all, but I fear I may be out of date on this band as they appear to be referred to in the singular nowadays. The singular appears to be mad multitasking lead, though, and he's well worth watching, very good vocals -- odd, but good.

*This often presents something of a challenge to the venue, and I don't think I ever saw them play without something breaking.

Play Eberg's "eharp" online.

To me he'll always be a very nice drunk man helping us coach the guy who owns Rotator after a bad date.

So dark, and yet softened by the dreamy colours. The combination fits my recent mood very well, to be reminded that bad stuff is as ephemeral as good stuff. Sometimes all you have to do is wait a little.
