One odd scrap of news; Paul Gravett was coming to the Ashmolean the following day to talk about Manga monsters; always an entertaining topic, but alas I was working on Sunday. Shrug. There's too much going on to go to everything.
We met at the Far from the Madding Crowd and it was pretty much empty, possibly thanks to its neighbour now being far-from-glamorous Oxford City Centre Tesco Metro rather than still-fondly-remembered Borders. They had lost the large tables, though, leading to the usual (albeit welcome) problems of having to extend the table scrap by scrap... I think they settled on the first and third Saturday of the month, meaning your next one is 16th Oct.
Maybe it's age, but I'm still trying to organise all the new characters in my head. In the usual way I kind of know about quite a lot of them already but that can be a problem as well as an advantage, leading to an awkward temporal doubling effect where you and your half memories of each other are talking simultaneously, alongside memories which might be false; or someone else entirely.
Visiting jinty made me realise just how much I used to out-source the social bits of comics (which we called Moving and Shaking) to her; while baby Aphra burbled we talked through the people who'd been there, straightening histories. Speaking of which, must remember to take her Primeval series 1; they're glued to the sofa at the moment and need interesting box sets. Also, you can never start a child's dinosaur consumption too early.
